It is the second foreign consulate general in Wuhan following France while it is US sixth consulate general in China.
The consulate general in Wuhan, covering Hubei and the neighbouring provinces Henan, Jiangxi and Hunan, will provide emergency services to American citizens, promote American exports and enhance commercial cooperations.
Wendy P. Lyle was appointed as the first consul general.
Clark T. Randt, Jr., Ambassador of the United States to China, also attended the opening ceremony.
